Updated 2/11/11 to add creator Jana Sinyor’s comments about the final season.
The therapy will continue! Being Erica has been renewed, the CBC announced today. The show will return for a fourth season, but when remains to be seen. If previous premiere dates are any indication, the new season will probably debut in early fall in Canada.
Also unclear is where the series will air its fourth season in the United States. SoapNet, which is currently airing the third season, will be rebranded as Disney Junior in early 2012, right around the time that SoapNet would theoretically air season 4.
But right now, I’m too happy that the show will be back to worry about that. After quite the finale cliffhanger and months of waiting with baited breath, it’s wonderful to know Erica’s journey will get the closure it deserves. And I mean closure in the final sense. If you haven’t heard yet, the fourth season will be the show’s last. Executive producer Aaron Martin told EW the final season will answer “every question” and will leave “no Lost mystery, no Inception spinning-top teasing.” “Coming full circle, fulfilling your purpose, and finding joy” will be the theme of the final season, he said.
Creator Jana Sinyor confirmed today that season 4 will be the show’s last at a LiveJournal community for Being Erica. Her message:

Season 4 is the end. It’s important to Aaron and I to be able to finish the story in a way that is satisfying to our audience. This is going to be a big year for Erica, and by the end of it – she will have finished the journey she started…

…and I think that the Kai caracter is wery week and WERY boring. I somtimes had to put him on mute because he is so ower the top, both when he sings and when he talks.

! Anyway how I think they should do Being Erica’s last season is Erica should somehow wind up dating Kai, and they could get married and have a family together. We should finally learn the whole story on Dr. Tom’s messed up past, and how he went from being Tom to Dr. Tom. Erica should release her first book! Dr. Tom could still sometimes check up on how Erica’s doing being a thearpist. And who dies when a big earhtquake hits Toronto? And Julianne should find someone. Keep up the great work, I also can’t wait to see ABC’s verison of the Being Erica remake!
I too watched it on Netflix all 3 seasons. I’m in love with this show and I’m very very happy season 4 is coming!
I still like the show, but seasons 2 and 3 were not nearly as good as season 1. Happy to hear it’s coming back though. But please – DROP the gay characters – and before anyone flips out, I AM gay, but the gay characters in season 3 were excruciating.

Please DROP the gay characters is a good idea but not possible because time travel exists in the 5th dimension and in the 5th dimension there are no genders. The soul is both male and female. It is encouraging and romantic to see Adam with Erica on the island because in the 5th dimension two islands separate genders. I hope that the 4th season includes Adam and Erica on the island together again. I hope that Dr. Tom checks in on Erica and writes himself into her story more often.

I started watching Being Erica only a few months ago, but somehow got addicted to it REAL quick and finished all three seasons! Since SoapNet is being invaded by a pointless Disney Junior channel (pointless because it seems like there are already a handful that already exist), I think Being Erica should look into showing it on Lifetime…they seem to draw a similar auidence and I think it would do well on that network.
It’s interesting that you mention Lifetime… I often think of Lifetime’s Drop Dead Diva as the spiritual cousin of Being Erica. 🙂
OMG I am addicted to this show…..I just finished watching all 3 seasons on netflicks and I am delighted to here there will be a fourth season. However, how long will it be before I can watch it? It seems that from what I read so far, that it only airs in the U.S yet it is a Canadian show……..does it air in Canada?
It airs in Canada first. Then it airs on SoapNet in the US.
Amazing show – blew me away. Have just watched all three seasons on netflix and got totally addicted. Amazingly creative, insightful, brilliant, and funny writing, and incredible acting — esplly the actress playing Erica. Wish there could be more than just one more season. SO PROUD to be a Torontonian – so refreshing to see the city i know so well, and to hear references to Etobicoke and Bayview Village and the Pride Parade etc.

I love this show, but I’m so upset that we won’t be able to watch season 4 in the US. I know they are planning on doing an US version, but it won’t be the same.

I think a fourth season is perfect. Enough to know how Erica does as Dr. Erica. I hope the ending isn’t the end. It would be nice if the exit was as the beginning was the viewer is watching this womans life, her regrets, and her growth through being able to re-live them and change who she is in the now. It would be nice to see her end up with Adam or someone of the same caliber who knows what she is doing and why, but even if the end is that she is a single woman balancing many parts of her life, it will be the right ending. Who cares why Kai couldn’t find her 10 years in the future. The whole point as I see it is Erica did something we all could stand to try living her life in her version of the present.

The best show that I have seen in years- funny, romantic, insightful, etc. My daughter and I watched six episodes of season 3 in a row. At 2:30 am, we took a nap and then watched through to the final show. I am thrilled that there is going to be a fourth season. So happy to see such quality programming being produced in Canada.
I would like to say how wonderful this show is,all of the actors and actresses are superb.This show deserve the best of every kind of award,if you know what I mean.This kinda show makes you feel as though you’re there living the characters life.Every single episode brings you something to look forward too. It never gets boring.I just wish that the fourth season didn’t have to be the last season,but with that being said I would like to thank Erin Karpluk for her playing the role of Erica along with all the other cast and crew members.I wish you all well and peace of godly love in everything you do.Remember your talent in the show business isn’t just from going to school for theater it’s a gift from God. I love Dr. Tom!! and all of the characters of this show.. Hulu was where I first saw this show and have followed it ever since season 1.. i will miss this show.. the acting is amazing.. and the writing superb.. I hope that when ABC does the remake.. they dont do exactly this story.. and this story line.. I hope they use the same format.. but come up with new characters.. that would be great.. because I already know Ericas story.. now I want to hear someone elses!
I’m thrilled that Being Erica gets a fourth series, living in the UK the end of the 3rd series isn’t out yet so I have to (unfortunately) keep up slowly. I’ve just finished watching the episode where Erica becomes a Doctor, and I LOVE IT! I bounced around the room while she was making her office. It’s a fantastic show, clearly loved all over…even by us across the pond : )

I have to admit, I was dead against a 3rd season for “Erica”. I love the show, since night one, and was so worried about it “jumping the shark”. I believe that it is the finest Canadian TV program made to date, (well perhaps neck-a-neck with The Beachcombers) and to have it’s legacy tarnished by a terrible season leading to it’s cancellation is a dreadful fear. Season 2 ended at a logical point, and what would have been a fantastic “Swan Song” for the series.
My fears were assuaged very early on in the season, and I found that season 3 was every bit as good as the previous 2. Because of this, my faith in season 4 is high, and I can’t wait for it to begin.

i really want kai to come back i really hate adam and i think he needs to get backwith the wifey lady i know it’s probably impossible for kai to be with erica but i think they would be awesome i love kai and erica i hpe will make the right decision and pick him over adam i’m so happy it’s coming back for another season i too watched it all on net flix or however u spell it and i finished it in 4 days that’s how hooked i was lol can’t wait !!!!

Was wondering whether there would be a 4th season…I had read somewhere that the show was up for cancellation…what a joy to find out another season of Being Erica will be returning!…love everything and everyone in the show, but what really attracted me, was the concept of having the opportunity of going back and rewriting our past and also seeing details in the past that were missed the first time around…wouldn’t we all love to have our own Dr.Tom…never mind Kai, Adam or Ethan, how about Erica ending up with Dr Tom? always thought there was more chemistry there than the typical daughter, father relationship that is protrayed in the series

I wish it would keep going but at least we know it will be the final season and they could wrap it up nice. I also hate to think of it as an American show or a UK show 1rst because when we remake shit most of the time its not as Good but we might get lucky, and also Canadian and American humor don’t translate into british humor as well.
I think we should find out who Erica’s patient is.I believe Brett fancies Julianna, thats why he was like i’m so hurt and when julianna told that guy “you’ve not been the first gay guy into me”. She must of rejected him as she thought he was gay!. I’d love that storyline to expand. I’d like Adam to be kept in!. I love Being Erica! the quotes make great facebook status updates!. I hope Dr Tom doesn’t fade into the background. I don’t like Kai so don’t think he should come back. Its a great programme very different from anything i’ve watched!. I want to see what ericas room looks like fully!. It would be good if Erica has a baby boy and calls it Leo!. Aww lookin forward to the show returning.! Big Being Erica Fan!. xx
Yay, I am so excited! And this is all the way from the UK! Being Erica is definitely my new favourite show of the moment. It’s rare that I like a lead character so much, but I love her! As she goes through therapy, so do ! I love Adam by the way ( it seems like there’s many fans who don’t)! I think he brings a great energy to the show, and his episodes get me all of the time! I love his bluntness too! Not everyone comes from a perfect background ( who really does in truth? shall we say, privileged), and it’s a great story to show Adam’s trials and troubles and the fear he feels, in pursuit of a more normal life, on the right side of the law! Him and Erica are great together! But that said, I loved Ethan too, and I was truy devastated when Erica had to break up with him, though I completey understood her reason! I also liked Kai, but thought it was completely reckless when he divulged aspects of her future-somethings are better left unknown! So the writers do a great job in introducing male interests for Erica! To the poster above (Dr Erica), I agree about the Brett and Julianne story, but to go one step further, I think Brett was in love ( is still in live with Juianne). I managed to catch a bit of season 2 on E4 (an english channel), and it was the episode Julianne found out that Freakin (phonetically spelt!), the ‘The Secret of Now’ author, was cheating on her. Erica told her, but Brett knew, and he expressed his condolences, and Julianne felt betrayed that he hadn’t told her ( i think he was trying to protect her), and then she went and demoted him, and he then got her and erica fired! I think love and hate are the two sides of the same coin, and Julianne never really appreciated Brett, and after the demotion (which lets face it is harsh) he had enough, and did something unacceptable! But then, in true Being Erica philosophy, I am sure it was meant to be, as no doubt, as I am sure Season 4 will unveil, Julianne and Erica were meant to open their own publishing business, and will probably be very successful as a result! I loved season 3, Im so glad her freind Jenny was finally put in her place, and dumped so to speak! I have a friend like her, and I always felt she wasn’t the best with Erica, as is my friend with me ( needless to say this friend and I are not so close anymore)! Can’t wait for season 4! And the DVDs of course!
I think i’ve just read every single comment on this site.. and i agree with all the ones with love for Kai in them! 😀 I’ve got this idea in my head for a way they could be together, and i’ve seen an online conversation with Sebastian Pigott (kai) talking about his character in season 4. He talks about how he has grown into a man through his therapy and aims to “fight” for Erica.
Which leads me onto my idea… If Erica is now a Doctor, capable of her own time-travel, then surely she could be with Kai in his rightful place in the future? She can be with him in HIS time, and still have the go between of her office to go back to HER time… i know it sounds rough when putting it like that, but script writers should hopefully understand what i’m saying —– I HOPE! cos ratings would just plummet if Erica stayed with Adam
I am a man and was kinda homophobic before this show and my girlfriend assured me I was a dumb ass. Turns out she was right I would love to go to pride and have such good friends. Gay or straight, I have learned it simply does not matter. No show has emotionally impacted me like this one. Simply brilliant. I realize now this was never a “chick” show. It is simply about people. It turns out that I have a lot to learn, and I will miss this shows writers dearly.
I Love this show. As for me it shows a personal side. I am similar myself to Erica, in the way she is not fully confident in everything she does but her friends think the world of her anyway.

I am more than excited to see the new series of Being Erica. As I’m from Jersey in the channel islands it will more than likely be a while until I do, but be sure i’ll be unbearably waiting!

I think everyone wishes they had there own “Dr Tom”, but I’m more than sure that everyone is more than grateful for you sharing your story with us. I’ve never looked forward to watching something so much than Being Erica, and i’ve never not watched a boring episode.

I love Being Erica!! Its unlike any other T.V. series and I love the way in which it ties so many great genres together. The writing is superb, as the final summations that Erica says at the end of each episode are not only profound and insightful but inspirational!! All the charcters are great and although I’m sad to hear that season 4 will be the last season, as the show promotes such a great message, I’m sure it will be great!!

Being Erica means a lot to me. In one of the episodes what Erica was going through just so happened to be similiar to what I was going through at the time. This show will be one of the shows that I could watch over and over, which is a big compliment coming from me!
As for which man she should end up with, I think Adam. We all want what we can’t have, and what Kai and Erica have is an impossible romance. That is my personal opinion. Otherwise I think we should all let the writers do their job, they’ve done amazing so far!
OK adam looks like the worlds best kisser. and i think that kai is too weird for erica. And ethan is out of the picture. thats just horrible to make her go back to him.

I dont understand why everyone is hating on Adam so much, hes just a confused guy and Erica is definitely the person to bring out the good in him. Sure Ethan and Erica had great chemistry but the relationship was never healthy and with Kai it wouldnt make sense for them to end up together because the show is all about ‘everything happens for a reason’ and there is a reason she was brought into his life and a reason he had to leave and a reason why he cant find her in the future… if you truly think about it, Adam and Erica are the perfect fit, he can help her as she can help him and they make each other happy. I can understand why a lot of people dont think they can work but opposites attract<3 (and yes I absolutely added the cheesey heart thing at the end.)
oh and truth be told the accent kinda helps the case, but mostly its the growth I've observed in his character that truly makes me believe they are right.

I will ask agin. Why is the show ending? It cant be because of ratings because people seem to really like it. Please keep this show going. In my oppinion there are way to many shows about getting drunk and ruining your life. We need more shows about changing our life for the better. Please everyone tell your friends about it so we cant boost ratings. Thank you 🙂
I’m really looking forward to this. Erica is one of the first ever realistic female characters on television that I could actually relate to. Her looks, her attitude, her life – nothing is entirely perfect, but the flaws endear us to her that much more.
There isn’t a lot of Canadian-focused media for young women either, so as a Torontonian, I felt especially connected to the locations they filmed in. To think there will be an American version makes me smile, knowing they can never recreate the innate richness of our great city.
I await with bated breath, and annoy my significant other as I replay the last three seasons, non-stop, in anticipation.
So excited about the 4th season but its sad to see such a great show end =(

My daughter and I watched the first 3 seasons on Netflix and were addicted we were so excited to hear that season 4 was starting in the fall. We have watched every episode since the new season started and i just read today that this is the last season!!!!! WHY it is a great show so why take it off the air??? 😦

SoapNet has no plans to air Season 4, unfortunately.
this needs to come back. I want to see Erica helping Dr. tom’s daughter and I want to see what’s Erica’s future going to look like. Why would stop a great show like this?

It’s unfortunate that SoapNet went off the air right when the U.S. season 4 was supposed to start. I really hope another network picks it up –hello? Lifetime?! I still have it on my Tivo Wish List, just in case!
